Day 1 in Kyiv, Ukraine

I got into Kyiv yesterday at 4:30 p.m. The customs line looked like Ellis Island, so two hours later, we were on our way. The architecture is great, but I haven’t been out with a camera to take pictures yet, but I will! There’s a blend of different architecture styles, and my favorite buildings have that “Soviet modernism” look, but they were built 40 or 50 years ago, so they’re worn down and tired looking. It’s a subtle, but beautiful irony.

Shortly after arriving in my room and checking my email, I decided to take a bath. I put the plug in, went to find some clean underwear, and returned to the bathroom to find this:

So I took a shower.

The people in Kyiv have thus far been very accommodating and very polite. They’re tolerant of English-only tourists (like me) and everyone I’ve talked to has been very kind/helpful.

The poker tournament is being held in a dilapidated sports complex that looks to have been used primarily for gymnastics. Here are some photos from where we’re working:

We’re going out sightseeing in a couple of days, so I’ll post more pics then.
